Filariasis is an infectious disease caused by filarial worm, Wuchereria bancrofti. This disease is transmitted by mosquitoes belonging to culex family.
It is commonly caused by Wuchereria bancrofti, it can also be caused by Brugia malayi and Brugia timori.
Treatment of filariasis
Drugs used for treatment are Diethycarbamazine, ivermectin, albendazole etc.,
Elephantiasis cannot be treated completely, intermittent surgeries can be done to reduce the size of the limb by removing the excess of lymph
