The Human Heart is a life line to all the Anatomical functions and Physiological functions of the Human Body and Mind. The Heart is one of the vital organs in the human body which works continuously without stopping for even a second and the stoppage of the functions of the heart indicates the near death of the person.

Human Heart - The Life Line for the body

The Human heart and the heart in all Vertebrates is a Muscular and Hollow Organ which is responsible for the pumping of the Blood by contracting and relaxing in a repeated and rhythmic manner. This blood thus pumped by the Heart spreads throughout the body by means of blood vessels which are present in the whole body and carry Pure Oxygenated blood from the Heart to the whole body and also impure and de-oxygenated blood from the whole body to the heart.

The Blood vessels - The pathways for Blood

The blood vessels carrying pure and oxygenated blood are called as Arteries and the blood vessels carrying impure and de-oxygenated blood are called as Veins. This nomenclature remains universal with a few exceptions.

The Heart is also known as Cardia which is derived from Greek words καρδιά or kardia, which in plain English is meant as The Heart and from which are derived various words like Cardiac, Cardiology.

Heart Muscle fibers and Heart beats

The Heart is composed of special types of muscle fibers which are known as Cardiac Fibers which are a type of Involuntary Striated Muscle Fibers and they are responsible for the contraction and relaxation of the heart and in Humans the Heart beats for nearly 72 times (beats) per minute with a cycle of 0.8 seconds.

Average life of the Human Heart

On an average, the Human heart undergoes nearly 2.5 billion beats in its whole lifetime in an average lifespan of 66 years.

Average Weight of the human heart

The average weight of the Heart differs in females and in males. The average weight of the heart in females is in between 250 grams to 300 grams. The average weight of the heart in males is in between 300 grams to 350 grams.
