When blood oozes out of the nose because of various reasons like injury, blows, strenuous activity, infections like cough and cold, high altitudes, it is known as nose bleeding.
First Aid for Nose Bleeding
1. Do not panic. Nose bleeding is normal maximum number of times and not a cause to worry. Stay calm and sit down.
2. In sitting position, lean forward so that the blood from the nose does not enter into your throat.
3. Apply pressure on the nose by pinching it with your thumb and forefinger just below the nasal bone for 2 minutes so that the bleeding stops.
4. Now place a cold wet cloth or a cotton wedge inside your nostril and having it over there, apply pressure again from outside as in step 4, for 5 minutes so that all bleeding stops and also that the the plug inside the nose soaks all the blood and makes the area clean.
5. Place a pack of ice over the center part (bridge) of the nose.
6. Consult your doctor for a shot of Tetanus Toxoid / pain killers / antibiotics and also probably if the bleeding from the nose continues.
